Abbott - birth story

Jessica was due to be induced Monday, June 28th in Clarksville. We were in contact all day from 8 am. I checked in on her about every two hours and she wasn't dilating any more than the 2 cm she'd been at for the last couple weeks. By 2 pm she finally got to a 3, and at 5:30 I was a little concerned that I couldn't get a hold of her (she was napping, haha) and I thought I was missing it! I was almost on the interstate when Jessica called me back and said there had still been no progression and that her doctor was going to be there around 7:30 pm to check her and make some decisions. To me that meant c-section or continued Pitocin. I did NOT expect to get a call at 7:30 that they were sending her home... FOR A WEEK.

A week later they tried again. First thing in the morning inducing her, and she slowly progressed through the day. At 1 pm I went ahead and drove to Clarksville and got there right as they broke her water and she was still at a 3 so I went to go grab some lunch real quick. 6 hours and no progress? I thought surely I had plenty of time.

The text messages between me and Garth after I got in my car:
1:56 - Garth - She just got checked and is at a 4
1:58 - Tryston - Ok, I'm at la Chiquita and will come back as soon as I'm done so tell her not to do anything crazy for at least 20 minutes.
1:59 - Garth - Will do
At 2:25 I got back in my car and drove up to the first stoplight when I got this message
2:26 - Garth - She is at a 7 1/2
2:26 - Tryston - Holy Crap, I'm on my way.
2:28 - Tryston - Gone 30 minutes and she goes nuts
2:34 - Garth - She is getting ready in a few.

I was already in the hospital and almost to the room when that last text came through, and "getting ready" meant GETTING READY TO PUSH. I couldn't believe it. 2 separate inducement dates, 6 hours with no progression on the second date, I leave for 30 minutes and she goes to a 10. Don't worry! We still made it in plenty of time. Jessica had an epidural, one of the main reasons we didn't know she was progressing so quickly at the end, and it made her just a joy to be around and she laughed through her whole birth! It was crazy!

Abbott was born at 2:58, was 7 lbs 3.6 oz, 22 inches long, and welcomed into the world by a big, loving family ready to spoil him rotten ;)
